And Only To Deceive - Tasha Alexander

Hello! My name is Heather and I'm very honored to be doing a guest Book Review for B-O-B.

Imagine, if you will, living a privileged life as the only daughter of a wealthy Victorian family. Emily lived this life, and frankly hated it, largely because of her domineering mother whose only goal was to see Emily wed.

To escape eternal rounds of pestering Emily finally gave up and accepted the very next proposal which came along, regardless of love, and quickly married Philip, the Viscount Ashton.

However, just a few months after their marriage, Philip was killed while on safari and suddenly Emily found herself in an amazing position. A young and beautiful widow, with a title and wealth at her command, she could now do everything she'd always dreamed of - read, study, travel - all without anyone telling her what she could and could not do.

Life was hers for the taking, and she couldn't have been happier.

But Emily happens upon Philip's journals and while reading them discovers that Philip adored her. She continues to read and slowly realizes that she has fallen in love with her dead husband.

Good! But it gets even better. Throw in Philip's charming best friend (who may not be exactly what he seems), a villa in Greece and a mystery involving stolen artifacts from the British Museum and you have a wonderful novel of suspense and intrigue couched in lovely Victorian cadences.

I simply could not put this one down.

There are two addition novels which follow the further adventures of Emily, Lady Ashton. All are worth reading, although I must admit I liked the first one best.

Run out to the library and grab "And Only To Deceive". You won't be disappointed.
