Themes: Civil Rights, WWII, Women's Rights, WASP
I have one word to describe this book "Refreshing". I've been reading and watching a lot of stories about Legal Thrillers, Violence, shoot'em up bang bang, grrr, anger stuff. I also wasn't in the mood for wizards, witches or fairy dust. So when I found this book my interest was piqued. I know stuff like WASP happened, but I didn't know much about it. WASP (Women's Air force Service Pilots) was a program set up to give women pilots a way to help in the war. The weren't actually given military status, but there efforts were a huge help in the war efforts. Ida May is a fictional character that the author uses to give us an insight into the WASP program. Ida is a colored girl, who poses as a white girl to get into the program. One of the things I enjoyed about this book is the absence of anger. You have your southern racists, and a few cranky folks, but overall everyone is a good person.
overall I recommend this book.
