The Cobra Event - Richard Preston

- I almost gave this two books, but there were so many parts over my head, I had to dock it a half book for making me feel stupid.
- very graphic details of the effects of this disease

Well after a fluff fest of easy books, I decided to work on a book that has been sitting in my 'to read' pile for years. I've read two other Richard Preston works "Hot Zone" & "Demon in the Freezer", and completely enjoyed them but they exhaust me mentally and emotionally and rationally. So I was hesitant to pick this one up. Though I've heard from a pandemic expert that this was one of his best along with his first. HZ & DitF were more non-fiction genera, and just gave a lot of scary facts in a story form. Cobra Event was a work of fiction filled with TONS of info. If you have a queasy stomach, I would not advise this read. But if you have an iron stomach like me and enjoy the off the wall books like this, I can definitely give a good recommendation.

Cobra Event follows a CDC doctor, and a couple of FBI biological warfare experts. They discover someone has combined a common cold with the small pox, and is releasing it into the NY subways. This new virus does not play nice, is 100% lethal with in 3 days and is painful and destructive. They work with a secret government agency called Reachdeep to try to forensically discover what this virus is, who is making it and how to stop it.

It's a page turning thriller, but it is also filled with immense details about world wide biological warfare, building, testing, storing, hiding, etc. And unless your some kind of scientist, most of this will just go over your head... more than most went over mine. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
