Enjoyability: +
Rating: ME (It has real teen themes: drinking, smoking, and sexual references)
Genre: Teen Fiction
I picked a tough one for my first review. I should have cheated and reviewed a book I all ready knew.
I found myself reading it in one day, so it was definitely enjoyable. Very girl power and stick it to 'the man' but I also worried about the reasons behind what she did, and I found the conclusion very dissatisfying. It was the club theme and the clues and the pranks I found amusing. It was very modern and current. Which I found fun and refreshing. So I am torn between a good review and a bad.
Review with SPOILERS:
I was excited that Frankie refused to be objectified, and only seen as a pretty little girl with no mind. I was very impressed with what she was able to accomplish with the 'old boys club'. But i was so extremely depressed to find out she did it all for the attention of the boys she so badly wanted to prove she was smarter than. I understand, being only a few decades since I was a teen myself, how important it is to have the cool kids like you. I have to say though for all the intelligence she supposedly was trying to prove, she still couldn't see how extremely wrong for her she was trying to impress, were. The pranks were entertaining though, and her will to accomplish such impossible tasks were fun to follow. I always enjoy a good mystery and clue solving book. It's reference to a fictional secret society while referencing real secret societies i.e. "The Skulls" (I've seen the movie I know all about them, wa ha ha. ) Makes it a little more tangible. So reading it as it was intended as an enjoyable teen book, I did not find it a waste of my time.
