- language and war violenceI just finished Empire of Ivory book 4 of the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. I have really enjoyed this series. It was an interesting take on the wars of England. Where His Majesty's Aerial Corps involved dragons. Everything else was normal, the only Fantasy part was the dragon. The war against Napoleon was raging, and Lawrence was a captain of a ship who by fate came across a dragon egg. And from there on became Temeraire's captain in the Aerial force. A world where a dragon is big enough to whole a whole team of men, gunners, flaggers, etc. all strapped on by harnesses. My biggest struggle with this series, was that Temeraire had the same personality as Saphiera from Eragon. BUT Temeraire was a male. so confusing at times.
The first book is about the new relationship of L & T, and T's development into one of the fleets best dragon fighters. In book two they travel to China where they learn that dragons are part of society and sometimes royalty. In book three they travel to Istanbul to rescue some other dragon eggs, and in book four they travel to Africa to find a cure for an illness that is threatening the whole fleet.
Lots of fun and an easy read.
