So why am I recommending this book when there are so many warnings? I admit there is a lot of stuff you need to be aware of, but this book was powerful. It was one of those books where laying in bed, I said "OK just one more chapter" next thing I knew, the book was done and it was way way way (that's three hours) past my bed time. It was captivating. It was also very interesting and I felt like I got a very entertaining history lesson. I do recommend this book, but proceed with caution.

Summary:
This is a story about a reporter, Julia, in Paris who is assigned to write a story on the 1942 Jewish 'roundup' in France. Vel d'Hiv. A story detailing the roundup of over 13,000 French Jews and sent them off to Concentration camps, where very few returned from. It is also the story of little Sara Starzynski a ten-year-old Parisian girl born to Jewish parents. Her experience when the French police banged on her door early in the morning and forced her and her family to join those being held in the VĂ©lodrome d'Hiver, and their following trips to the camps. This story talks about Frenchmen some who turned their eyes, others who reached out.
It will also follow Julia in her personal life as she digs deeper and deeper into the roundup's history.
