The Maze of Bones (Book 1 - 39 Clues) - Rick Riordan

Likability: ++ Loved it!
Rating: S totally!

First time i heard about this book was because of its author Rick Riordan. I loved his Lightening Thief series, and was excited about a new series. So like i always do when I'm bored i research books. I found this bit-o-info from Time.com which was very eye opening to me. The book is designed to be fun and educational at the same time, to all you grimacing at this point....pbtttt. also what i found interesting is that Rick Riordan will not be the only author, in fact there will be 10 books with 10 different authors, one coming out every three or four months. I find that fascinating, also exciting that i don't have to wait years for book 2 to come out. This book is pretty much engineered, which means that a bunch of money hungry executives got together and thought, (spoken in powerful executive voice) "We must create a book that is greater even than those crazy Potter books. We must mass market it as much as possible, trading cards, real live clues, merchandise, prizes the woooorrrllldd.....wa ha ha ha" Which is exactly what they did. So instantly i was turned off. I like books that are private discoveries or references from close friends, or have personal meaning. I loved the twilight books until they got to be a teen crazed disease, then i lost interest, it made me feel like a lemming. Alas i fear the 39 clues books will fall into that trend. So with that in mind and with much excitement/trepidation I dove in.

I loved it. I love love looooooved it. read it in less than 24 hours. Granted it is only 210 short pages long, but it was fun exciting, mysterious, natural. Why natural you ask? I felt the main characters were real teenage kids with fears, insecurities, overly enthusiastic bravery, and a little ADD as well. Some of the other characters were not 100% believable but that is what made them fun and a little funny too. The synopsis can be summed up in the link above, but basically its two orphaned kids who while at their beloved grandmothers will reading found out they can take 1 million dollars and walk away or take the first clue of 39 that will lead them to find the family legacy and treasure which they are told will make them the most powerful in the world.

I'm hooked. Only 60 days till the next book comes out. (do i even need to mention that there is all ready movie chatter?)
ok ok i admit it, i went to the web site, and logged on. You never know i could win the prizes
